The product label is a marketing document, not a chemistry document

The first rule of countertop care: the label tells you what the manufacturer wants to sell you, not what is true. A "15-year sealer" doesn't actually last 15 years. A "miracle cleaner safe on all stone" is usually safe on engineered surfaces and quietly etches marble. A "professional-grade" product line is often a relabeled version of the consumer line with a 4× markup.

The guides below were written from a beat-up spiral notebook on top of a fridge — every product we've tested, the day it started, and the day it failed. Most of them fail. The ones that survive a family of six, three meals a day, and the worst three cooking days of the year (Thanksgiving, Christmas morning, a child's birthday party) are the ones we recommend. Everything else gets named so you don't waste money on it.
