These tools are meant to invert that. We track real installed quotes from 18 fabricators across Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas — a mix of high-volume chains and independent fab shops. Reynaldo's shop (Sky Stone Granite in Murfreesboro) is one of the data points; he doesn't see the numbers from the other 17 until we publish.

A calculator gives you a range. A real quote prices your specific slab, your specific cabinet layout, and the actual drive distance from the fab shop. Always get three independent quotes — at least one from a shop with its own slab yard.

The calculator is calibrated for the nine mainstream materials. If you're looking at a $400/sq ft Calacatta Gold or a niche imported quartzite, the price range will be too low. Bookmatched or vein-matched installs add 20–40% that the tool doesn't predict.

Our survey is Southeast-weighted. If you're in coastal California, the Pacific Northwest, or the New York metro, expect installed pricing to run 20–40% above what the tool shows. The tradeoffs between materials still hold — the absolute numbers shift.

Out-of-level cabinets, undersized supports for a stone overhang, or a pantry wall that needs to come out during install — those are real costs that show up on real quotes and never on a calculator.
