How To Calculate Your Countertop Square Footage

Calculating your square footage is really easy to do. To do this we will need to dray an aerial view of the kitchen, then measure all sides of the existing countertops in inches. Write down the measurement to refer to later. Below are some examples of hand drawn kitchen layouts for reference.

Countertop Square Footage Math Formula

The math formula to calculate your countertop square footage is the following:

Length X Width / 144
Length times Width devided by 144.

You will multiply the length of your surface by the width then devide that by 144 to get the total square footage of that piece. Be careful not to count corner pieces twice. If you have an L shape kitchen you will subtract 25.5 inches from the length on one of the calculations.
